The eye area is a priority target for cosmetics and rightly so, as it is one of the most sensitive areas of the face. The skin around the eyes is very thin, and provides less protection against environmental stress (UV, pollution, tiredness, etc.) and this is manifested particularly in the appearance of two symptoms: shadows and bags. These unsightly imperfections accentuate signs of tiredness and make the face look older.

How it works
Under-eye shadows and bags are mainly caused by an inflammatory reaction in three stages:
- Stress (UV, pollution, aging, etc.) and an accumulation of iron (already existing under-eye bags and shadows) generate ROSs which trigger an inflammatory reaction.
- The metabolism reacts to the inflammatory reaction by recruiting white blood cells circulating in the blood vessels to act at the site of inflammation.
- The moving of white blood cells from micro-circulation to the inflammatory site on the skin requires pores to be formed on blood vessel wells. This mechanism causes a leak of plasma and of a multitude of red blood cells in the surrounding tissue.
The accumulation of plasma leads to the appearance of under-eye bags (edema), while the hemoglobin contained in the red blood cells colors the tissue. The oxidation of iron in hemoglobin increases the color characteristic of under-eye shadows.
